EPHS Skills USA shines at State and their Car Show

The Eagle Point High School Skills USA program knows how to shine – at state competitions and at putting on a car show.

In mid-April the EPHS Skills team traveled to Portland for the Oregon State Skills USA Meet. 19 of 25 students finished in the top six of their areas of expertise and seven Gold Medalists qualified to compete at Skills Nationals.

Over the past eight years EPHS Skills students have won over $245,000 in scholarship awards at state and national competitions.

At Skills State, Matt Boren, Skills Advisor at EPHS, was named Oregon Skills USA Advisor of The Year.

On April 28th EPHS hosted the 9th Annual Thomas Ussary Memorial Skills USA Car Show – and it drew over 200 cars from around Southern Oregon. Rogue Valley Corvettes showed up in force with over 20 cars and walked away with two trophies – one for Club Participation and one for Best Corvette.

RVC shared the Club Participation award with Rogue Valley Mustangs and Classic Fords, and the Mustang owners joined RVC for a cruise after the show and a potluck dinner following the cruise.

“The Skills students did a great job at State and they put on a first-class car show,” said RVC President Dan Richards. It’s wonderful that Matt Boren was recognized for the job he does. And we made some new friends with the Mustang owners. It was a great day.”
